서울대학교병원운영 서울특별시보라매병원(병원장 이재협)이 국가생명윤리정책원이 주관한 ‘2025년 기관생명윤리위원회(IRB) 평가인증제’에서 우수한 성적으로 인증을 획득하며 윤리적 연구 수행기관으로서의 입지를 공고히 했다.

이번 인증은 생명윤리법 제10조와 제11조를 바탕으로 한 평가제도로, 기관생명윤리위원회의 구성과 운영의 적절성, 연구 심의 과정의 타당성, 운영 인력의 전문성 등 약 40여 개 항목에 대한 종합적인 검토를 통해 이루어졌다. 평가 절차는 2025년 2월부터 4월까지 약 3개월간 서류 심사와 현장 실사, 종합 평가의 과정을 거쳤으며, 보라매병원은 모든 항목에서 기준을 충족하며 최종 인증을 획득했다.

이번 인증 획득은 단순히 윤리적 임상연구 수행능력을 입증하는 차원을 넘어, 병원 전체의 연구 및 진료 체계가 국가가 제시한 생명윤리 기준에 부합한다는 점에서 의미가 크다. 특히 급성기 병원으로서 보라매병원은 향후 의료기관평가인증원의 4주기 인증평가 항목 중 하나인 ‘임상연구를 안전하게 수행하고 관리한다’는 기준에 대해 별도의 조사 없이 최고 등급인 ‘상’을 자동 반영받게 됐다.

이러한 결과는 병원의 연구 체계가 단순한 내부 관리 차원을 넘어 국가 기준의 수준에 도달했음을 보여주는 중요한 지표이자, 향후 인증 준비 및 연구 활성화에 있어 실질적인 경쟁력을 확보하게 된 셈이다.

인증의 유효기간은 2025년 3월 11일부터 2028년 3월 10일까지이며, 향후 3년 동안 보라매병원의 기관윤리위원회 운영 신뢰성과 연구 윤리 체계의 정합성을 담보하는 공식 기준으로 활용될 예정이다.

보라매병원 의생명연구소 김유경 소장은 “이번 IRB 인증을 통해 환자 안전과 연구 윤리를 최우선으로 하는 병원의 원칙이 국가적으로 공인된 것”이라며 “앞으로도 지속적인 관리와 노력을 통해 윤리적이고 안전한 연구 환경을 조성해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

이번 인증은 환자 중심의 연구 윤리와 신뢰성 있는 임상시험 체계를 강화하려는 보라매병원의 노력이 빛을 발한 사례로 평가되며, 향후 공공의료기관의 연구 문화 정착에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 기대된다.
