Galux Signs Joint Research Agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim on AI-Based Precision Protein Design

[FNEplus = Mi-joo Lee] AI drug discovery company Galux (CEO Cha-ok Seok) announced that it has signed a joint research agreement with global pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim to collaborate on artificial intelligence (AI)–based protein design technologies. This marks the first case in which a domestic AI protein design company has entered into an official joint research collaboration with a global top-tier pharmaceutical company, and is regarded as an important milestone demonstrating the global scalability of Korean technology.
The joint research focuses on verifying whether Galux’s protein design platform, GaluxDesign, can implement proteins that perform specific functions starting from the initial design stage. The collaboration aims to confirm whether AI can newly design proteins that incorporate required functions, which are difficult to obtain using conventional approaches.
Galux has demonstrated its technological capabilities this year by consecutively announcing de novo antibody design achievements across various therapeutic targets. The company has successfully designed novel antibodies with strong binding affinity at the picomolar (pM) level, comparable to commercial antibody therapeutics, and has experimentally verified the accuracy of the designed structures, thereby enhancing the reliability of its technology. More recently, Galux demonstrated that it could secure over 30% binding antibodies with as few as 50 small-scale designs per target, showing that AI can precisely generate high-quality antibodies within a short period of time. These achievements are considered to be among the top-tier de novo antibody design results reported globally.
Based on the technical potential confirmed through this collaboration, the two companies plan to jointly discuss ways to expand the partnership into a broader scope of collaboration going forward.
